چکیده

Abstract Purpose Thallium (Tl) is one of the most toxic elements known and its contamination an emerging environmental issue associated with base metal (zinc-lead) mining wastes. This study investigated nature Tl tolerance accumulation in Silene latifolia , which has so far only been reported from field-collected samples. Methods was grown hydroponics at different concentrations (0, 2.5, 5, 30 60 ?M Tl). Elemental analysis Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) laboratory-based micro-X-ray fluorescence (?-XRF) were used to determine distribution hydrated organs tissues. Results revealed unusually high shoots S. reaching up 35,700 ?g g ?1 young leaves. The species proved have exceptionally levels had a positive growth response when exposed dose rates 5 ?M. Laboratory-based ?XRF that localized mainly midrib veins differs greatly other hyperaccumulators. Conclusions Our findings show among strongest hyperaccumulators world. ostensibly evolved mechanisms survive excessive accumulated leaves, whilst maintaining lower roots. trait fundamental importance for developing future phytoextraction technologies using this remediate Tl-contaminated mine

in Silene latifolia (Caryophyllaceae)

• Sex ratio polymorphism has been extensively studied in Silene latifolia, but it is neither known whether inbreeding (which is likely to occur under field conditions) affects it nor which of the proposed mechanisms (Y degeneration, X-linked drive) is more important. Both mechanisms predict reduced pollen performance. • In this study, females were crossed with pollen from related and unrelated ...

Microsatellite accumulation on the Y chromosome in Silene latifolia.

The dioecious plant Silene latifolia possesses evolutionarily young sex chromosomes, and so serves as a model system to study the early stages of sex chromosome evolution. Sex chromosomes often differ distinctly from autosomes in both their structure and their patterns of evolution. The S. latifolia Y chromosome is particularly unique owing to its large size, which contrasts with the size of sm...

Molecular and quantitative genetic differentiation in European populations of Silene latifolia (Caryophyllaceae).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Among-population differentiation in phenotypic traits and allelic variation is expected as a consequence of isolation, drift, founder effects and local selection. Therefore, investigating molecular and quantitative genetic divergence is a pre-requisite for studies of local adaptation in response to selection under variable environmental conditions. METHODS Among- and withi...

Within/between population crosses reveal genetic basis for siring success in Silene latifolia (Caryophyllaceae).

Divergence at reproductive traits can generate barriers among populations, and may result from several mechanisms, including drift, local selection and co-adaptation between the sexes. Intersexual co-adaptation can arise through sexually antagonistic co-evolution, a timely hypothesis addressed in animals but, to our knowledge, not yet in flowering plants. We investigated whether male and female...

A taxonomic study on the genus Silene (Caryophyllaceae) in Iran

The genus Silene includes 98 species in Iran, with 35 endemic to the Iranian plateau (26 species for Iran). The Iranian species are placed in 21 sections. In this article, the most important characteristics for the separation of the sections, relationships between the sections, and an identification key for the sections in Iran are presented. For each section a distribution map is provided. The...
